Strange Sweet Song A Novel Adi Rule Books

Creepy and haunting, on more than one occasion I got goose bumps from the chilling yet lyrical writing of this story. Definitely a Gothic tale with mythology sprinkled throughout, I loved the story of Sing (Yes, the female MC, who is trying to become an opera star, is named Sing. At first I was irritated by this, but then quickly got over it.) as she faces fears and insecurities to determine what she really wants, and goes after it.

The pressure Sing's parents placed on her was infuriating. I mean, even her NAME weighs down on her with the ultimatum to succeed! Everywhere she goes, the reputation of her father and the legend that was her mother proceeds her. Never is Sing simply Sing. She must always practice, must always excel, must always perform.

When Sing enrolls at a noteworthy music conservatory, she finds more on her plate than just music lessons. Juggling new friendships, a flirtation with the cutest guy in school, competition with the resident Diva, struggles with her bewildering vocal coach, and an inexplicable pull towards the haunted woods and the mysterious creature there… Is there any wonder that Sing feels pulled in several directions?

Still, she finds solace in music. As she diligently prepares herself for a dream role, she realizes that the neat picture she had painted of those close to her may be inaccurate portraits after all. With the mounting pressure to succeed, will she have the strength to discover what she truly wants? Or will she fail at everything, and lose herself in the process?

My favorite part of this story was Daysmoor. That's all I'm going to say. I don't want to ruin it for those who haven't had a chance to read it!

On the flip side, I was not a fan of how some of the secondary characters were not fully developed. The same effort that was put into Sing, the Felix, the conductor, and Nathan could have been applied to other characters for a richer story. Also, sometimes the shifting point of view was confusing. Typically, I enjoy dual POV! In this book, however, some transitions were more successful than others.

That being said, if you are a lover of excellent writing, a creative plot, and a hint of creepiness, then you will LOVE this book!

Strange Sweet Song A Novel Adi Rule Books Reviews

This story started out a little difficult to follow - but wrapped me up in the story so intensely that I could not put it down.

An amazing book - inspired - moving. I loved it
This is an awesome story for teens and old folks alike! I enjoyed the different threads and how they come together. the characters were well detailed and complex enough to make the whole thing sparkle.
Great story with unexpected layers. Engaging characters and interesting twists.
Truthfully I would give this book 3.5 to 3.75 stars. Not quite a 4, but good. The last third of the book improved significantly, and I would definitely recommend this book based on the fact that it got better as it moved along.
I cannot get over this book, it was amazing!
I was a little worried going into this novel because i had seen a few bad reviews, but i'm glad that didn't stop me. This book is done in multiple points of view and the way Rule did this is part of the reason i loved this book so much. another reason i loved it so much it that i did not find it predictable at all! I would go into a longer review, but i fear i would give something away and that just would not be fair to anyone who hasn't read the book. So go and get sucked into this dark and wonderful world Rule has created.
I bought this book for my 11 year old granddaughter but, after reading the first chapter, I had to read it myself. We both loved it. There is realism, historical intrigue, fantasy, music, young students with the usual dreams and concerns. It is a fantastic piece of writing and I will be watching for other writings by this author! So much fun!!
Wow! I LOVED this book. It's beautifully written, really lyrical and atmospheric. And what a joy to linger over the sentences-- it's definitely a book I plan to reread so I can savor the language. Reading this felt like slipping into a magical dream-- I loved how the story weaves in a soul-tingling mythical storyline while still being grounded in this world. And the music/opera elements were just stunning, written with so much passion and knowledge! This was an artfully written novel with a plot that completely engaged me-- I read this in one sitting. It's rare and wonderful to come across a book like this. I'll be recommending it like crazy to teens and adults!
